Rescued from Child Labour as Trafficker is Caught

RCI outreach workers were suspicious when they saw four boys huddled together and looking confused at Darbhanga Station. They went to talk to the boys who were nervous and worried, but once they were reassured by the team and knew they were safe they explained that they were being taken to work at a biscuit factory in Bangalore. They had been taken to the station by an ‘uncle’ from their village and told to wait where they were while he stepped outside.

The RCI team alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and with their help they were able to apprehend the trafficker at the station. He admitted that he was being paid to traffic children for labour and was handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP).

The children were rescued and made safe while their families were contacted so they could all be reunited. RCI then continued to work with these families and help them get a greater understanding of both the legal implications of child labour and the physical, emotional and mental trauma that a child undergoes when she is sold. They have been encouraged to support their children through education and in follow up visits the RCI team has found that all the boys are still safely at home and school while the trafficker has been imprisoned.
