Like a silver lining, the pandemic and its consequent lockdowns gave many a folks like me a chance to do the things that we’ve always wanted to. Among the few things that I pushed myself towards, one was content writing. Having dealt with the technical aspect of editing for some time now, I was itching to try my hand at creative writing. Railway Children India was looking for volunteers who could write decently, and I was looking for any chance to write–a match made in heaven!
What began with editing a few stories from the field, took the form of conducting interviews, writing blogs and, now, writing reviews.
Railway Children India gave me unique opportunities that not only allowed me to hone my skills but also brought me closer to the unimaginable realities of many children.
A couple of my favourite works include an interview of the firebrand Priyaswara Bharti and a review of the path-breaking children’s book Guthli Has Wings.
One of my key learnings while my time here is that access to quality higher education, safe environment, nutritious meals and healthcare services are the unalienable rights of each child. However, in case of many children, particularly girls, their rights are challenged at each step of their life due to many social evils.
On a parting note, I would like to thank Railway Children India and Nipa Bhansali for giving me uncountable learning opportunities, and I would urge people to contribute their artistic talents and their invaluable time to the precious cause of child rights.
